Elevating the profession

The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Strongly disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

As teachers I/we aim to develop a deep and broad understanding of what we teach and whom we teach, as what we know (knowledge about curriculum, professional practice, enquire and research skills) and what we care about (children, families, community, and our team) make a massive difference to student learning. I think teachers are great role models for their students when they use their skills and abilities to be lifelong learners and grow in their profession, and use these skills to enhance and inspire children/students to follow in their steps and for them also to become lifelong learners.

I agree with the actions as myself believe in passionate teachers who take interest in their students’ lives, aspirations and dreams, teachers who help the students to understand their values and passions, teachers who help and support students’ learning and following their dreams. I believe teachers should be thoughtful, responsible, inclusive, respectful and tolerant to be able to engage with students and families from different culture and backgrounds.

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Somewhat agree

Actions seems believable but will not sure how effective will be by 2026 as we have teachers that are leaving the industry for a reason or another, such as programming time, documentation, vaccinations mandates, salary, approved leave or working under pressure to meet expectations in a time frame.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

Strongly agree

Actions taken to design and implement packages of ITE accreditation reforms will inform and help in one way the development and strengthening accreditation system and of course will increase teacher supply in the industry, however, I am not sure how the quality of teachers and teaching will be, as I’ve seen and noticed that program accreditation across Australia is inconsistent, by providing a variety of levels of teacher preparation upon graduation ( Bachelor degree in 4 yrs, 3yrs and 18 months). I don’t want to be judgmental but can’t compare a 4 yr Bachelor degree with an eighteen months Bachelor Degree. What teachers know and learn will teach. We are the teacher that will provide a high quality of teaching and care and aim for high expectations across the all areas. Can this program and actions will improve the quality and care in our teaching and learning system?

Maximising the time to teach

The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Strongly agree

Hopefully teachers will have enough time to complete assessment and recording of students learning in a more effective way to maximise the time we spent with children. Unfortunately a majority time teachers spend with program, plan and writing assessments.

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?

Very effective

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

Strongly agree

Continuity of learning and professional development for teachers help them stay connected with their network and collaborate with others, help them be current with latest teaching curriculum and pedagogy and become more confident and effective in their profession.
