Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD)

The Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group report, Action Now: Classroom Ready Teachers, recommended better teacher workforce data collection and sharing at the national level.

With the support of all Australian governments the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), the Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) collection provides the first ever national, whole-of-life picture of the teacher workforce, from those entering initial teacher education, to experienced teachers, through to retirement.

Access to the latest data and publication are available from the ATWD Key Metrics Dashboard (aistl.edu.au).

The ATWD and the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan

In December 2022, all Education Ministers agreed to the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan to address teacher shortages by helping to attract and retain more people in the teaching profession.

The ATWD will play a central role in the implementation of actions to better understand future teacher workforce needs under Priority Area 5 by improving the information available for workforce planning including projections of demand; the supply of ITE graduates and additional data on teacher and school leader wellbeing and career intentions.

TALIS 2024 and the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan

In December 2022, all Education Ministers agreed to the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan to address teacher shortages by helping to attract and retain more people in the teaching profession.
