I have been a Casual Relief Teacher since I graduated in 2006. Because I was casual I lost my home in 2009 following separation from my partner of the time. No bank would approve me to take over the home loan because I was casual.[REDACTED] I now have a Part time job in another industry and still work as a casual teacher 2 days a week. In my opinion the casualisation of the teaching workforce in Victoria and New South Wales, and the high number of teachers on year to year contracts, has harmed the lives of too many people. I have considered leaving the teaching profession many times. The one thing that would make me stay, if I could get one, would be a permanent job.
