In Victoria casual relief teachers need to be treated with greater respect at many schools. Centralised employment would mean that ALL CRTs could collective bargain and be covered by the VGSA and all the entitlements of being a department employee. At the moment labour hire companies in Victoria supply many public schools with teachers. Money making often takes priority over looking after experienced (but more expensive) casual relief teachers. The pandemic saw many casual relief teachers leave the profession because certain schools didn't take care of them despite department directives. They ignored department directives and as a casual if is very difficult to individually bargain when you are worried of the consequences of doing so - the school turning their back on you.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

Some people don't want move up in the profession but might like to move sideways eg to another school or even reduce their time fraction. The devolved government system in Victoria, recruitment online makes this arduous. Contract teachers applying year in and year out to teach results in burnout. This devolved system means a principal can employ who they think are a good fit but what is the cost is this to employee health and well being.
