All of the money mentioned in efforts to encourage teachers to join the profession is not replicated in the efforts to retain those of us who have been in the profession for many years. It is hard to stomach the monetary bonuses on offer to new teachers or those who are willing to move to new areas when most of us who have been around for a while are unable to move due to having families. However, as with myself, there are many who are looking to leave the profession as moving to a new town or area is not an option.
There is also the issue addressed in this document at all - student behaviour. Teachers are constantly taking courses and PD to improve their skills in the classroom - when will parents and carers be offered courses on parenting? These would need to include the importance of nutrition and a good diet, the need for adequate sleep and rest for their children, advice on parenting around the use of phones and social media and the need for basic manners.
