In South Australia, we need teachers to be able to attain permanency. I love the school I am teaching at but I am struggling to deal with 10 years of never knowing if I will have work the following year. I build relationships with students, staff, become proficient in developing programs and then I either have to move on and hope to obtain a contract somewhere else or wait with no income and doubt and anxiety until a few days before the school year begins to find out if I have a job. I am very close to leaving the profession I love because I feel so undervalued and dispensable.
