As a classroom teacher of 20 years I also feel ‘over the job’. No respect or recognition from anyone- parents, leaders above - we have just come off remote learning the expectations that are now on us to fill in the academic gaps, fix mental health and the list goes on all while we are on a ridiculous salary! No one wants to be a teacher as the expectations and pay is ridiculous!! Fix the pay scale - don’t just give a minority of ‘top of the scale’ teachers and expert wage- how insulting to everyone else in the profession. Where I teach majority of staff are at the top of the scale. You cannot select a couple of us to be rewarded with a much higher salary for doing the same job. This will cause disharmony and more teachers to leave. Pay rise for all- we are all doing the same job!

Vic teachers were given a new agreement with more ‘time’ - our leaders have dumped more work on us (planning, meetings & admin) so this extra time doesn’t feel like it at all! Time in Lieu also doesn’t work as our school will now not do things after hours as they can’t afford to give us time in lieu! What a joke! For the record I didn’t vote for this agreement.

You want a teacher shortage fixed and make it a profession more attractive to people to join- pay us all properly! Do not give a small handful of people a pay rise or this itself will cause massive issues and more teachers leaving feeling under valued (even more)!
