Elevating the profession

The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Somewhat disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

These are proposals that will take time to implement and action is urgently required. They do not address student behavior, red tape or teachers having so much work to do that they are not really teaching anymore. Anyone can deliver a curriculum, not everyone can effectively teach - you have removed the ability to teach with so much admin and curriculum drive

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Strongly disagree

The time frames to enter the teaching profession are not addressing the issue in time. 2 years for a masters degree is not possible for many - even if you offer internships. How are mothers (or fathers) supposed to complete a masters level qualification whilst working full time and keeping up with home and children responsibilities? Reintroduce the Graduate Diploma as an option that halves the time and financial investment. It was working for a long time. Also, LANTITE - it is another financial blow to students - not to mention the stress of another test. Example, as a Physical Education and Health teacher, why do I have to pass a numeracy test? Also, I have passed the required and related tests so tell me what value this adds for domestic students? There are so many pressures that do not add value to the profession.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

Somewhat disagree

Once again, you are simply moving the issue and not solving it.

Maximising the time to teach

The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession
