Elevating the profession

Lantite needs to be removed for disadvantaged students who want to become teachers, work hard to complete their assessments on time and complete their degrees with a massive HECS debt, but cannot graduate due to failing a component of the lantite test. If they were unable to or not “smart” enough to become a teacher, they would not have been able to complete their entire degrees and pass their practical units. It makes no sense to make students pass an entire degree but then prevent them from teaching. This is why there is a teacher shortage. Too many have failed even though they are more than capable of teaching.

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.
