10million will go to the advertising companies. It would be tater off spent improving some if the infrastructure in schools, rating the school funding so it’s at 100%
A feel good about the profession is sugar coating thing, so when a graduate gets into a school and is feeling under pressure to perform as well as someone who has been teaching 10 to 30 years more, they choose to leave. When school admin are not available to assist with difficulty behaviours of students, because they are busycompleting paperwork and data analysis for external bodies and govt depts, or choosing staff .On top of this the graduate is only offered a short term contract with no prospects of it developing into a career,then even experienced teachers give up or reduce their work fra timon and as a result disengage with the schools development .
so I do not agree that spending 10 million on a campaign to raise the status of teachers is worth while use of public funds

Get away from terms like performance management. They imply a deficit style of thinking about a teachers work. Why doe they teachers always have to improve?
Teaching is not a performance that can be judged or critiqued like a stage show. This type of thinking create some disengagement for all levels of teachers. Calling it professional development is entirely different and gives responsibility to the teacher, not an external “judge”

Qualified teachers who leave the profession are not always able to return to the classroom. In WA Public schools,IPS meant teachers had to apply for a job and then judged on the application rather than experience and ability to teach,.

My experience of this was that after leaving school environment to work as an educator in another firm, I spent 14 years as a fixed term or contact/relief teacher, unable to secure a more substantial teaching position. I have now given up any idea of returning to full time/ permanent teaching. Instead I am procuring relief teaching to a handful of local schools.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

In WA public schools many teachers are discouraged about moving to new schools because of the onerous application process to move to another Public school. Jobs advertised are quite often nonexistent, because schools create pools of applicants for possible future vacancies. Getting into a pool is no guarantee of a job
