The Pilbara Kimberley Universities Centre recently celebrated a record-breaking 33 students graduate. The celebration was held in Karratha, Western Australia.
Among the graduates were 11 nursing students and 14 students who completed Graduate Certificates in Project Management, Asset Maintenance and Management.
The ceremony was attended by family and friends as well as Susan Grylls, Chief Executive Officer, Pilbara Kimberley Universities Centre, and other key stakeholders including the Hon Fiona Nash, Regional Education Commissioner.
Dr Jacinta Homann, academic co-ordinator at the Centre said she was proud to see a record-breaking cohort graduate.
“It’s wonderful to see regional, rural, and remote students succeeding in higher education without the need to leave their families, homes or jobs,” she said.
Regional Education Commissioner, the Hon Fiona Nash said:
“That’s been the wonderful thing about these regional university (study hubs) is that they provided an opportunity for people locally to look at doing the study of their choice at regional university (study hubs), it is very exciting.”
The Centre is funded through the Australian Government’s Regional University Study Hubs program (formerly Regional University Centres program).
The Pilbara Kimberley Universities Centre will soon be supporting more regional and remote students to study with the Broome campus set to officially open in Western Australia on 19 September 2023.
This year, the Regional University Study Hubs program is supporting more than 3,400 students, who are studying more than 1,000 courses through over 200 tertiary education providers around Australia.
On 18 July 2023, the Hon Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education announced $66.9 million to establish up to 20 additional Regional University Study Hubs and up to 14 new Suburban University Study Hubs. This is part of the Government’s response to the priority actions listed in the Australian Universities Accord Panel’s Interim Report.
