The Australian Government is supporting more women to pursue qualifications in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through the Women in STEM Cadetships and Advanced Apprenticeships Program.
As part of its commitment to upskill and reskill women in STEM, the Government is providing grant funding to approved higher education providers to develop and deliver pre-bachelor higher education courses designed to support women to study part time while continuing their careers.
Six universities have been approved under Round 2 of the $25.1 million program. This includes four new higher education providers, as well as additional places for two existing Round 1 universities. Under Round 1, a total of 18 higher education providers are already designing and delivering STEM courses for women across Australia, including from regional areas.
The latest Women in STEM program funding will create an extra 267 university places across Australia. This is an innovative program, involving strong collaborations with industry, to promote equity opportunity outcomes for women who are under-represented in STEM.
In addition to funding for higher education providers, the program supports students’ participation in the program by providing grants of up to $5,000 to employers to encourage flexible working arrangements and contribute towards the cost of studies.
