Are you a researcher, PhD candidate, industry partner or industry employee? Are you interested in working at the interface of research and industry and collaborating across sectors? Applications are now open under Round 3 of the National Industry PhD Program.

Applications for Round 3 of the National Industry PhD Program have opened for candidates wanting to complete their PhD on challenges facing industries across Australia.

The fourth round will open in the latter half of this year.

The National Industry PhD Program supports PhD candidates to undertake industry-focused research projects and develop the knowledge and skills to better translate university research into new products and services.

The program also provides PhD candidates an opportunity to gain practical and research experience in both industry and university settings.

The program consists of two streams:

  • Industry Linked PhD stream: For outstanding PhD candidates to undertake research projects co-designed by university and industry, with opportunities to be embedded with an industry setting and participate in a 12-week training program.

  • Industry Researcher PhD stream: For highly capable industry professionals who are supported by their employers to undertake PhD projects in partnership with a university while retaining industry employment and salary benefits.

The program is part of a $296 million government initiative to build Australia's research talent and harness the world-class research universities are known for.

Thirty-two research projects were funded under Round 1 and 40 projects were awarded funding under Round 2.

Applications need to be submitted through a participating Australian university. Before submitting an application, an industry partner and university need to co-design a research project suitable for a PhD candidate.

If you are a researcher with a compelling research project but don’t yet have an industry partner, or a business that seeks to host a PhD student for a specific project, Campus Plus can help facilitate connections between both parties.

To get in touch with Campus Plus, you can complete an Expression of Interest form or email industryphd@campusplus.com.au.

Applications for Round 3 close on 15 March 2024. For more information, visit National Industry PhD Program.
