The ‘Be That Teacher’ national campaign was announced on 31 October 2023 at Kirrawee High School, NSW. The campaign was officially launched by the Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Education Minister, the Hon Jason Clare MP and NSW Deputy Premier, Minister for Education and Early Learning, the Hon Prue Car MP.
The campaign is a joint Australian, state and territory government initiative that showcases the value and importance of teachers and encourages individuals to consider a career in teaching.
The campaign features 8 teachers from across the country. They each share their personal stories about the lasting impact they have had on their students. These teaching stories all centre around the idea of an exhibition of keepsakes and mementos given to these teachers by their students. These range from heartfelt notes and gratitude-filled cards to a photo of a moving moment captured on camera.
All teachers are encouraged to take part in the campaign and submit their positive stories about a time they ‘became that teacher’ for their students. The stories received will be published on the ‘Be That Teacher’ online gallery to show all the amazing ways teachers right across the country make a positive impact on the lives of students and inspire the next generation of future teachers.
The campaign will be seen nationwide until April 2024 on social media, online video, billboards, train stations, bus stop and buses, and select television channels.
