The Australian Government recognises the importance of supporting the learning and teaching of First Nations languages in Australian schools.

To this end, the Government has committed to a $14.1 million plan over four years to 2025-2026 to teach First Nations languages in primary schools across Australia, to help lift the uptake of First Nations language learning by young Australians and keep First Nations languages alive.

The funding will support local First Nations community and school partnerships, to enable the development and placement of First Nations Educators to support the learning and teaching of First Nations languages in our schools.

The Government is committed to developing this initiative in partnership with First Nations communities.

Information and updates on the measure will be provided as they become available.
