As announced in the National Innovation and Science Agenda, the scheme will be open to applications continuously from 1 July 2016—a change from its current annual cycle.

The continuous application process will offer readily available support for collaborative research that responds to time critical market or innovation opportunities. The continuous application process will be complemented by a continuous assessment process and decision making will also be expedited to fast track highly competitive applications.

Researchers, businesses and other end users will be able to respond to time critical market or innovation opportunities. They will be able to progress grant applications as opportunities arise, and will know the outcome within much shorter timeframes.
