Why schools participate

The National Assessment Program (NAP) is a major component of the Measurement Framework for Schooling in Australia 2015.

NAP tests measure:

  • Australia's student performance data as an average across the country
  • How Australian students are performing compared to international peers
  • Where improvements are needed
  • Australia's overall performance in key learning areas such as literacy and numeracy

Who runs the National Assessment Program tests

Australian National Assessment Program tests are run by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) in collaboration with Test Administration Authorities.

The Australian Government Department of Education manages the international NAP sample assessments on behalf of all states and territories.
