The National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program works strategically to assist people with disability to access and participate in tertiary education and subsequent employment.
Funding for the NDCO Program will cease from 1 July 2023.

Funding is provided to host provider organisations (universities, TAFEs, not-for-profit community organisations and employment and training service providers) to employ a national network of NDCOs who operate within 31 NDCO regions across Australia. NDCOs work with stakeholders at a local level to reduce systemic barriers, facilitate smooth transitions, build links and coordinate services for people with disability between the education, training and employment sectors.
The NDCO program aims to:
- improve linkages between schools, tertiary education providers, employment service providers and providers of disability programs and assistance at all government levels
- improve transitions for people with disability between school / community and tertiary education, and then to subsequent employment
- identify the systemic gaps and barriers that exist for people with disability in making the transition to tertiary education with the aim of informing best practice in areas affecting the education and employment of people with disability.
2021-22 NDCO Program Review
In September 2021, ORIMA Research was commissioned to review the NDCO Program. The Review examined whether the program was meeting the needs of students with disability in addressing existing gaps and barriers in the transition from secondary school to tertiary education and subsequent employment.
As part of the Review, ORIMA Research consulted with students with disability, peak bodies, equity practitioners within the tertiary sector, and individual NDCOs and host providers.
